13 - November 10, 2016

Early this morning we anchored offshore from the tiny village of Boca da Valeria. It's so small there are no paved roads nor organized tours. Somehow the locals know when a cruise ship might visit, so they were 'prepared' for our arrival. Many years ago we were on a Cruise West Sea of Cortez cruise that had an overland extension by train from Los Mochis, rim of Copper Canyon to Chihuahua. CW suggested we bring school supplies for the Tara Humara school we would visit. We did and it was very rewarding.

On Cruise Critic Suzy read a comment which suggested we bring something similar to Boca da Valeria. Suzy purchased many colored pens, pencils and paper. For Cap, so far this has been his most rewarding stop. They are an amazingly polite, proud people.

The 'pier,' tender enroute.

Typical home

Note the sandals, removed before they enter their humble homes.

Suzy and macaw

Suzy, handing out 'gifts' as we boarded the tender for the pier. Note sloth in girl's arm.

And Suzy near their village.

Just note their expressions. I wish we would have brought something for each child.
