16 - November 13, 14, 15, 2016

The day after Manaus, we arrived at Parintins, Brazil, a small, fairly undeveloped Amazonas town that can be reached only by boat or plane. Its great claim to fame is the annual Boi Bumbá Folkloric Festival. Three days in June each year 30,000 people flood the town of 100,000 for the Festival, at the Bumbódromo arena, for a major show competition between the Red and the Blue sides of town (the town's sidewalks are even painted either red or blue). We got to tour one of the float factories.

Ferries everywhere--main mode of travel

Volunteer guide at temporary pier--main pier was closed.

The Bumbódromo stadium--they play soccer on the concrete floor!

Incredible floats--moved by teams of men by hand through the streets and into the stadium. Some were more than 80 ft high.

And another beautiful Amazon sunset (here matches the color of the Amazon River)

Two days at sea followed, with one featuring a Gala Tea full of fanciful candy sculptures.
